Chuck Morris is a ceramic artist/studio potter based in Philadelphia. A longtime Associate Artist at The Clay Studio he is excited to expand his studio practice to the BOK. His work is functional and incorporates a variety of clay bodies, glazes and surface treatments. A small batch maker, Chuck’s work is intended for daily and special occasion uses. No two pieces are exactly alike, his short runs explore variations of form and the interplay of glazes in his palette. Marcelino Stuhmer is an artist, curator, writer, and educator. His work includes paintings, drawings, collages, video, live performance, and immersive installation. In Stuhmer’s artwork, historical relationships are embedded, mirrored, masked, and filtered through painting, world history, American political archetypes that exist within his deconstructed and reconstructed cinematic images. These images are at times made at cinematic scale to immerse the viewer in these complex cultural spaces. He is critically engaged in how the present moment and the interpretations of todays’ images are controlled by political power, fluctuating hybrids between fact and fiction, fear and aggression, guilt and innocence, the multiplicity of the self, and his own post-colonial Dutch-Indonesian identity representing both colonizer and colonized. Marcelino Stuhmer is an Associate Professor of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He earned an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, did residencies at The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and a 2-year Fellowship at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Stuhmer’s artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally at Galerie Fons Welters, Amsterdam, Galerie Kusseneers, Antwerp, The Essl Museum of Contemporary Art, Vienna, Optica Center for Contemporary Art, Montreal, The Chicago Cultural Center, Art in General in New York, Vox Populi in Philadelphia, among others. His work has earned a fellowshiphs, awards, and prizes including, Best Sculpture at the Arte Laguna International in Venice, Italy, and the Royal Prize for Painting in The Netherlands. Naomi Stein’s childhood was an informal apprenticeship in interior design and renovation under the expert guidance of her father, Andrew Stein. Andrew’s nearly 40 years as a general contractor specializing in kitchens and baths presented Naomi with an opportunity to approach design with a skilled construction eye and practical-based knowledge. Naomi brought additional expertise to the duo’s practice with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Penn State’s College of Business, as well as an Interior Decorating Certification from Moore College of Art.
