Open Studios@Bok this Saturday
Over the last two years, the tenant base at Bok has grown to over 90 businesses! The varied and layered backgrounds of talent housed in one place is remarkable, and we’re excited to have a tenant-driven initiative to showcase a sample of the many things created under one roof. Please join us from 5 to 9 PM (doors close at 8:30 PM) on Saturday, August 12th for studios@bok.
The featured works of tenants will be exhibited in gallery spaces across the building. “Youth at Work” follows Federation of Neighborhood Centers’ summer internship program and documents the partnership between local high school students and neighborhood businesses, including several based at Bok. “Glitch Art” displays the mistakes, happy accidents, unexpected consequences of design development, and the behind the scenes stress in creation.
Walk between gallery spaces to stop by several makers, artists and others who will keep their studio doors open. See a glass demo at Remark Glass, pop into Lobo Mau to check out their latest clothing line, get to know the massage therapist behind Metta Body Therapy, and hear live music at Fringe Salon. Then, after 9PM, make your way to Fringe Salon for live music and artwork until 10 PM — or up to Bok Bar for drinks!
In addition, don’t miss “Value Content/Valor Contenido,” an incredible photographic exhibit created by U.S. artist Maria Möller and Colombian activist Daniel Urrea documenting 50 objects of personal, often nostalgic, value sent by citizens of Medellín, Colombia to citizens of Philadelphia (which shares the 75th degree west line of longitude with the South American city) — and 48 objects sent to them.
Entrance is on S 9th Street at 1901 S 9th Street, closest to Mifflin Street.
